Kelpies

July 25, 2022 by

Kelpies are forms of water spirits which are common throughout Scottish highland folklore.

They were believed to be water horses who could shape shift into human form at will and could be both benevolent and malevolent depending on circumstances.

On land, in horse form, they would appear tame and friendly, however anyone unwise enough to sit on the back of a kelpie would be carried into the water and never seen again.
