The broch known as Caisteal Grugaig is situated in Totaig overlooking three sea lochs: Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh. It is one of several Iron Age brochs or forts in the area.
Caisteal Grugaig means the ‘fort of the witch’.
Legend states that it is named after its inhabitant, a local witch who could raise storms to wreck ships in the lochs, and cast spells on the neighbouring cows, using her supernatural powers. She was said to have had two giant sons, Todder and Telve. There are two neighbouring brochs over the hill in Glenelg, Dun Telve and Dun Trodden.
