Both Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles (or White-tailed Eagles) are regular visitors to this area where they are often observed soaring above the ridges.
In Celtic mythology, the sighting of a single eagle sitting on a rock was a sign that an enemy was approaching; however seeing two eagles together was viewed as a symbol of peace.
In the Gaelic language the white-tailed eagle is called “Iolaire suile na grein” which translates as “the eagle with the sunlit eye”.
Highland culture places great importance on both eagles themselves, and eagle feathers, and a highland chief today is still entitled to wear 3 eagle feathers in his bonnet to signify his rank.
